If you want to make sure that no intruders come near your home then you need to have lights on outdoors and the indoors as well. If an intruder approaches your home, they can be seen by the exterior lights. Here are a few tips to improve the lighting around your home and be a little safer.
At Entry Doors:
Make sure you have lights on the exterior doors, even the doors that you do not often use. Make sure there are 2 bulbs outside. It helps if one of the bulbs is burnt out.
At Your Garage Door:
Have a light fixture with a motion sensor above the garage door. The light will turn on when the sensor detects a person close by. By having 2 lights, you will get more lighting coverage.
Along Walkways And Driveways:
Make sure you also have the lights at the sidewalk or street to your house. This also exposes would be intruders. Low voltage lights can also be effective on the driveways or paths.
Under Eaves:
Use floodlights on the outside of your home. Install these lights on the corners of the eaves illuminating two sides of the house. Make sure the lights are at a height that is not reachable by an intruder so they cannot break the light. Get motion activated lights, install motion detectors with them.
Under Windows:
Place the lights on the ground facing the trees and shrubs. Make sure you use low wattage lights so that you can see outside.
Under The Deck:
You also need lights for the basement walkouts. You should have a light fixture and a motion sensor. For the windows you can have low-voltage light to offer gentle illumination.
If you follow these simple steps the intruders will keep away from your house.
