Security Advice Using Common Sense
Most people do not follow basic security tips and leave their homes vulnerable.
Invest in an alarm system! Some people just have guard dogs and think they are protected, but dogs can also be tricked and can cause other problems also. Here is some important security advice.
Basic Home Security Tips:
1. Neighborhood watch programs
The neighbor watch programs actually work and are really helpful.
2. Lock all of your doors and windows
No matter if you are going to the nearby store, make sure the windows and doors are closed. Upgrade the doors and windows, install alarm systems. Make sure the doors are solid and are not easy to break. Use good quality locks.
3. Secure your sliding glass doors
A metal rod or piece of plywood in the track will help secure the sliding glass doors.
4. Don’t store tools in your garage.
The intruders will use the tools in the garage to break in easily.
5. Light Timers are efficient and low cost method of protection
With the timers you can give an impression that you are at home, making the intruders avoid your house. You can also use heavy duty timers that time the TV, radio or other electric devices as well as the lights.
6. Don’t allow trees and shrubs to grow tall
Make sure you trim the tree branches and tall shrubs regularly. They can serve as the best hiding place for intruders.
7. Use outdoor lights with timers.
An intruder will avoid the home that is lit well and appears to have the owners at home.
8. Going on vacation?
Make sure one of the neighbors collects your mail, if you are on vacation, so that the papers do not collect in at door.
Do not leave details on the answering machine where you are going and when you will leave or return.
